Back in 2006 I was helping to clean out an unused workspace. As I was sorting through a desk I found a little lue book entitled the Book of Mormon. I read about different faiths rather compulsively, so I had heard of the Mormons and knew a little bit about their beliefs. As I began to read the book I found, I realized that this is something that needed more attention than a passing interest. After awhile of reading the book and pondering its messages, I contacted the missionaries assigned to that part of Japan. Initially I enjoyed the missionary lessons and felt what the elders were teaching was true. While I had my doubts, both my wife and I went ahead with baptism.
Once the "fervor of the convert" wore off, our enthusiasm waned. We had gone from never going to church or having any religious involvement to being at church three hours a Sunday and home/visiting teaching during the week. We got "church overload" and slipped into inactivity. As years went by we moved further and further from the church.
Despite how far we moved from the church, thre was a small voice that stopped me from writing off our baptismal covenants completely. When we relocated to the United Kingdom, my wife and I made the commitment to become active again. I made a commitment to read the Book of Mormon again and attempt to recover my testimony. It worked out very well. Reading the Book of Mormon reiterated why I was baptized in the first place, and why I love our church.
We went from being inactive, and by the grace if Heavenly Father, to activity. I hold a calling in the Elder's Quorum, and my wife works in the nursery. Those callings have helped our understanding of the Gospel. In June of 20 we will fulfill our dream of being sealed in the temple.
I believe the Book of Mormon clarifies and amplifies the messages given in the Bible. It has built my faith and has been a constant support since my return to activity.
