SUBJECT: The First Vision
LOCATION: Provo, United States
I wasn't there. But somehow I feel it was as personal an experience for me as it was for the 14-year old boy of Palmyra. Joseph Smith stepped into a grove of trees a young boy looking for answers. He stepped out the most religiously enlightened person in nearly 2000 years. Joseph saw the face of God and heard His voice. I know that as well as I know I live. What followed was the greatest series of events since the coming of the Son of God. Because Joseph stepped into that grove, a church bearing the name and authority of Jesus Christ Himself is found on the earth. Because of Joseph, men speak to God today. Because of Joseph, we have the authority to perform saving ordinances like baptism and seal families as eternal units. I too have prayed to God searching for answers. Although I did not see Him or hear His voice, I felt His Spirit in my heart telling me that Joseph's experience was real. My own sacred grove experiences have led me to a firm belief in the reality of this and all the truth to flow forth from Heaven since that day.
