SUBJECT: Blessings of serving
LOCATION: parsons,
I had a neat experience today! Billy, my teacher age son, and I take the Sacrament to the home bound members on Sundays. One elderly couple in particular is one of our favorite stops(besides the nursing home I work at). The sister needed a blessing as she had sores on her legs that looked pretty bad. She takes care of her husband who is in his nineties. He has been branch president a few times in his life but now he can't remember the prayers for giving blessings. He and I gave her a blessing. He anointed her and I talked him through it. Then I gave her a blessing and felt the spirit strongly! The look on their faces was priceless! He was so happy to use his priesthood again and she was so happy for him to be administering to her. I love this church and the opportunities I have to serve in it!
My children and I love to serve and take every opportunity to do so. Because of it my children have had many opportunities to earn money. They have a good reputation in our small town as dependable and hard working. The blessings we receive from the service we undertake are evident in our lives. My children and I never go without even when times are tough. They not only have a good work ethic but they enjoy it because of the feeling they get from helping others and the joy of a job well done. I don't pretend to be super dad, I am far from perfect! I know that I am doing right by raising them with the standards of the church. I know that I am doing right by teaching them that joy and, peace, and blessings come to us from our hard work and dedication. I know that I am doing right by showing them that giving of ones self is more rewarding than receiving.
I Love this church! Did I already say that? I'll say it again, I LOVE THIS CHURCH! I love the Lord for who he is and the great service he provided for us! Jesus Christ served all of us with his life! All of his life he was in service, and in the end he gave all for us! We know that that was not the end however, but a new beginning, a rebirth of life as he was resurrected, a fresh start for all of us imperfect people. He took nothing for himself in his mortal life on this earth; he was in service to us. It was evident as he washed the feet of his apostles. It was evident as he went forth blessing those in need and administering to the hungry in spirit.
May we feast upon his words, and take his spirit with us in our service to our fellow beings. "When ye are in service of fellow beings, ye are in service of God".
I bear witness of the Saviors atonement and of his love for us. I feel it in my life daily and see it all around me. I love Jesus Christ so very much, and I pray that his atonement will not be in vein for me, my family, or any of you. Let us always remember his loving and selfless sacrifice. This is my prayer and testimony and I give it to you in the sacred name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
