But for the love of God... |

I am the only member of the church in my immediate family. My parents are vocally anti-Mormon, and my sister is interested, but restricted from talking about it. My parents ask me often how I could go against 200+ years of protestantism in our family, and almost 20 years of being raised in a protestant church to join what they believe is an 'armageddon cult'.
My answer to their questions is simple. I do it for God. When I truly began studying the words of God, in the Bible and in the Book of Mormon, but especially in the Doctrine and Covenants, it became clear to me that there was more to God than my parents believe. In Mormon 9:1-29, Mormon talks about how the God we all know and love is an unchanging and glorious God. He is a God of miracles, a God of creation, and a God of revelation.
"For do we not read that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and in him there is no variableness, neither shadow of changing?
"And now, if ye have imagined up unto yourselves a god who doth vary, and in whom there is shadow of changing, then have ye imagined up unto yourselves a god who is not a God of miracles.
"But behold, I will show unto you a God of miracles, even the God of Abraham, and the God of Issac, and the God of Jacob; and it is that same God who created the heavens and the earth, and all things that in them are." (Mormon 9:9-11)
I knew, from almost the beginning of my study of the restored church, that the God I loved and believed in was a God of miracles. And from the moment I began studying about Joseph Smith and all the prophets that followed him, I had a feeling in my heart that God was speaking through them to the people who are on the Earth today. As long as there has been a God there have been prophets in the land, and now should be no different.
I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of the Lord. I know in my heart and in my soul that he was the one ordained by our Heavenly Father to bring the church of Jesus Christ back into the world. I believe that President Monson is another such ordained man, a prophet of the same kind, ordained to lead the church through a portion of the last days. I believe in the truthfulness of all the standard works, and all of the modern-day revelation given to the world by the prophets and apostles.
But for the love of God I am standing here today, wrapped in flesh, and baptized a member of His church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. And it is for the love of God that I spread His message in every way I can.
And I say these things in the name of His son, my savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
