“The truth about who we are and what we do will ultimately become known. The Lord has given us this sober reminder: ‘For their iniquities shall be spoken upon the housetops, and their secret acts shall be revealed.’ Because we live in a morally desensitized environment, we find it hard to say to ourselves and to others that our actions are not right.” James E. Faust, Ensign, Nov 2000, 44–46

I was born in 1976. At the time my mother was looking for a church to join. I can remember her telling me that she quit smoking because she wanted a cigarette before she fed me and after she fed me and it was getting to the point she wanted a cigarette while she fed me. She was really scared that she was going to burn me one time and she felt that she would never live with herself if she had. She quit smoking cold-turkey.
I can also remember her telling me that she would go into a church (not lds of course) with an empty cup and come back out with an empty cup. Her best friend from high school had been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. That got her to questioning a few things here and there. Years later, she found out that a college friend of hers had just joined the church and Mom was really interested in knowing what it was about the church. She contacts her friend from high school and starts asking questions about the church. We started having the missionaries over. Mom and my sisters were baptized into the church in 1982, I think. Dad was baptized a year later after much persuasion.
After that, our family went through a period of inactivity off and on as we continued to move around the state of SC. I didn't join the church until I was about 10-1/2 years old. Even then, there was still periods of inactivity.
It wasn't until I was probably in my 9th or 10th grade year that we finally received a phone call from an elderly couple missionary serving in the branch at the time. They were interested in reactivating us back into the church and it was really at this time, that the church really made a difference in my life. It was at this time that I knew that I needed God in my life and really began to grasp onto the gospel.
It was during the summer between my 10th and 11th grade year that my parents decided it was time to move AGAIN!!! I had actually been praying for this at the time because I didn't have enough social strength from the branch. I was the only active member in the school that I attended and not to mention we had seminary either once a week or once a month. I think it was once a week.
So we move to this new area. YM/YW Mutual is once a week, not once a month like the branch was. We're in a ward. Several of the youth attend the same school as I. Things are going pretty well then. I start attending early morning seminary. My life is constantly improving.
During my senior year in high school I am picked one of several students for a local cooperative program as I am attending the local county career center. It helped to prepare me for the next step in my life, which was to go on a mission. After high school, I continue to work on the cooperative program and then I attend a local college as part of the agreement for me to stay on the program. My bishop at that time stated, that we wouldn't begin the paperwork for my mission until January 1996.
I get everything done at that time, my wisdom teeth cut out, the physical examination done and etc. I got my call in April that I was to serve in the Tennessee Knoxville Mission. I mostly served in the northern parts of the mission and was able to finally go down south for my last area.
When I get home from my mission, I am not able to find work right away due to a family runion. After the family reunion, I find a job so I can start saving up to go back to school. After going back to school, after much heated debate, I realize that the program I was going for was no longer for me and decide to go into management.
I wasn't in management the 4 years that I worked at a local grocery store. During these 4 years, I had been contemplated on moving to Utah as I wanted to go back to school there and I also wanted to find a bride. I had mentioned this to an online friend who suggested that I try LDSsingles.com. I sign up for LDSSingles.com and I ask this one guy under Apartment finders about his area. I had been expecting a reply back from him.
The very next day, I receive this email from Olivia. Olivia and I start emailing back and forth, Instant messaging back and forth, and calling each other. She stated that she wanted to meet in person and I told her that I had some vacation time in Aug 2001. Now mind you, we didn't start communicating until earlier part of that year. I go out to UT to visit some friends of mine and meet her. We really hit off then and continue to communicate with each other.
In November 2001, I become Jr Assistant Manager at the store I worked at and she comes to visit around Christmas and New Year's. We still enjoyed each other's company.
It wasn't until April 2002 that we were both talking about some serious stuff. It was at that time that we knew it was time to tie the knot. We set up a date for that June to get married. We decided we were to get married in the South Carolina Temple. I was to pack all my stuff and we were going to live in UT since she already had a house there.
After living in UT for 5-1/2 years, we decided it was time to move back to SC. I am currently majoring in paralegal studies and am half-way done with my degree. I currently work full-time as a manager at a small store and my wife works full time until I can finish my schooling which I am hoping is later in 2010.
