I bet that Galileo's teaching of heliocentricity (the sun being the center of our solar system) over the accepted geocentricity (earth as the center) and all the upheaval that came from the holding of science over religiously accepted understanding from scripture and Catholic churches requirement that he take it back or risk being excommunicated from that church. When looking into Christianity, I was held back because of what I took as immoral demands and a wrathful God. Basicall I would stand back and think, "How can I accept the bible when God allowed people to kill women and children, who told His servant to murder his own son, etc.?
