Brian gave the opening prayer in class on Wednesday, and in it he expressed gratitude for the sacrifices Dr. Holzapfel made to teach us. This spurred Dr. Holzapfel to briefly mention how so many of the teachers here sacrifice to be at byu because they want to be BYU. Many other colleges offer higher salaries, focus more on research instead of teaching, and offer more secular pristege (though not by much most of the time.) Here at BYU, most o... Read More
My favorite scripture mastery scripture in seminary Old Testament year was Moses 7:18 because I enjoy the idea of having Zion in a family situation. In my Book of Mormon class last semester the focus of discussions about Zion were exciting and new, but also fell into line with the way I like to think about Zion. Unable to let the memories remain only in her journal, Tolman wrot e a series of thirty-eight vignettes describing her semester as a student at the Brigham Young University Jerusale... Read More
Today I attended a presentation in BYU's museum of art about its religious collection. I had seen the collection before but I had not had somebody explain the pieces to me. While most of the works actually are not done by members of the Church of Jesus Christ, all are tastefully done and contain lots of messages in the form of symbolism. Quite a few of them are from Middle Ages, and only one of them actually was a modern work. &... Read More
