Why are there no new sections being added to the Doctrine and Covenants?
Posted On 02/24/2009 23:02:01 by Jonathan_A

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints I’ve been asked on a few occasions how we can have a claim to modern day revelation when there are currently no new scriptures being added to the Doctrine and Covenants or to our cannon of scripture in general.  I have learned more about this through the Doctrine and Covenants class that I am taking. Here are some explanations:

First, I realized that several sections of t... Read More

Building Temples

I am going to make this short and sweet; I've been writing all day.

I've been reading the really long section 124 in the Doctrine and Covenants over the last week.  In this revelation, the Lord is commanding that the Saints build a temple.  The temple is a place where the Saints can make covenants and receive further revelation.

This blog is something that my Doctrine and Covenants* professor has asked each member of our class to create, to record our thoughts and experiences as we study the scriptures.

I have recently been making an effort to read the scriptures on a more consistent basis.  One method that has helped greatly is reading daily with a friend.  Also, having regular reading assignments for my Doctrine and Covena... Read More

"Let no man glory in man"
Posted On 01/27/2009 20:05:50 by Jonathan_A
Our Heavenly Father has promised us more than we could possibly imagine if we are faithful and keep His commandments.  If being given a place in God's presence was not already a blessing beyond our fondest dreams; He adds so much more by giving us of His glory, in essence sharing with us all that He has.  In Doctrine and Covenants 76:51-60 we read about these promises the Lord has given us and it also explains how we come to be worthy...
