D & C 5
Posted On 11/04/2008 15:48:30 by nickpete
In Doctrine and Covenants section 5 verse 10, as we read today in class, we learn that this dispensation has received the word of the Lord largely through the prophet joseph Smith. I have never quite comprehended how much we actually owe to the prophet Joseph: the Book of Mormon; the Doctrine and Covenants; the joseph Smith translation of the Bible; his translation of the records now found in the Pearl of Great Price; even the temple ordinances of exaltation. SO MUCH! We can trace almost all of... Read More

Joseph Smith
Posted On 10/31/2008 12:39:15 by Bronco
Recently I attended the Sperry Symposium, an event where a series of talks were given on the Prophet joseph Smith.  I wanted to share a few of my favorite stories:   Spencer J. Fluhman spoke about when joseph Smith gave the Gift of the Holy Ghost to a younger girl.  A woman nearby was very upset and began to verbally abuse the girl and the Prophet.  She told joseph Smith that he was falsely talking authority upon himself and that he was nothing more than a dirty boy who... JST: there to clarify

Today in my D&C class we were talking about the joseph Smith Translations (JST) of the Bible.  First off I'd like to say 'kudos' to Professor Holzapfel for having the strength of will and love for his class to come and teach us even though he's sick.  I personally have relied on the JST verses for clarification of Bible passages that were difficult to understand.  I am fully aware that many Christian denominations today hold the Bible to... Prophet's Leadership

"There is a period of Mormon history which has always been a great source of inspiration to me. Emerging out of what I would believe the darkest period of trial and hardship, there broke forth a light of beauty and accomplishment seldom witnessed in the events of mankind."The efforts of the Church to settle in Missouri were met with severe opposition by the residents of that state. Lands were purchased, homes constructed, fields planted, and personal property acquired, only to have most of it st... Read More

Joe Smith and the Devil
Posted On 09/05/2008 01:35:46 by alexlds
On 25 August 1844 Parley P. Pratt published a little story in the New York Herald entitled "Joe Smith and the Devil." In this story the devil happens upon Joseph, and they have a pleasant conversation. The devil is insisting to the Prophet that he, the devil, is happy to support all creeds, systems, and forms of Christianity, of whatever name or nature; so long as they leave out that abominable doctrine, which caused me so much trouble in former times, and which, after slumbering f...
