I think I took this from some Spoken Word message years ago, but I couldn't find the reference.  It sends a tender message of the importance for expressing kindness to others.

Forget Yourself

At a restaurant recently, I was treated unkindly by someone and took it as a personal attempt to humiliate me. I left that situation with a negative feeling in my heart toward that person. As I drove the car along the road, I began to analyze that hurt over and over until I felt bitter. I wanted to feel better about life somehow. I prayed for some kind of relief.

A wise Sunday school teacher had each of his students bring to class a clear heavy duty plastic bag and a sack of potatoes. For every person they had refused to forgive in their life's experience, they were told to choose a potato, write the person's name on the skin of the potato with the date and put it in the plastic bag.

A few days ago I received this interesting story in my email.   The Unemployed Graduate

An unemployed graduate woke up one morning and checked his pocket. All he had left was $10. He decided to use it to buy food and then wait for death as he was too proud to go begging. He was frustrated as he could find no job, and nobody was ready to help him.
