A few years ago I was given a gift from Heavenly Father. We were driving, my wife and kids and I, and it was loud and full of tension. My wife, a non-member, was smoking and the kids were fighting. My wife was angry with me for asking her not to swear around the kids. She turned the stereo up on a song that was inappropriate. I understand the church does a great deal of work for the dead, though I don't understand why? Can somebody, preferably an elder of the church, shed some light on this subject. I am not in a position to judge the church for it's practices and I am far from perfect, so it bothers me a great deal to know that the church may be responsible for baptizing my ancestors without my knowldge, and quite possibly causing families to separate in some strange way. I grew up within the confines of the Latter-day Saint faith. I knew nothing of apologetics or any other technical religious terms. The only thing I knew was that which I was taught in my youth.
