I can only assume it boils down to the judge's personal distaste for Mormons of all stripes.  The Wikipedia article I cited states that the UT church was indeed providing aid to the Temple Lot church, and that was probably enough pretext for the judge to get his digs in.

It does seem highly improper for the judge to start weighing in on the succession issue that he wasn't even asked to resolve.  I'm told the RLDS really like this case, though!

Quitting the Mormon Church was sent to me years ago. As far as checking references with Daily Herald, I wish you good luck. They don't keep messages like this for very many years and if it was posted as a letter to the editor, I wish you even more luck. I was at the Herald yesterday and presented a good story to them. No interest at all, so the other paper in Utah County got and it looks better.

Years ago, there were only a few papers in Utah County. I considered the best to be the Utah County Journal [Lee Nelson] for it's unbiased reporting and journalism. No, I didn't write for them, but I supplied some material for them.
