Book Of Mormon Schedule
Posted On 01/08/2008 23:13:41
I Nephi, being born of goodly parents...... Yup read that line at least 50 times in my life. Only ever read the Book of Mormon from cover to cover twice. Makes me feel bad when I have read the Hitchhikers Guide Trilogy at least a dozen times. I love this idea of sticking to a schedule and how Heather has put the whole thing on the calendar to keep us up tp date and I think a little more motivated. Hopefully we can ll start blog entries around this, as well as setting up some topics within the Forum as well.

Well, I am going to go and do the things which have been asked of me and catch up with everyone else to be at least at the end of Chapter 4 of 1 Nephi.

I think about what Heather said in her blog regarding that we do not know why President Hinkley has asked us to read the Book of Mormon, but that it is of great importance that we do so. I think about this as I read about the angels visiting Lehi and giving him a book to read from which he learned so much, and strongly felt the Spirit from. Here is as good a reason as any, for now (for those feeling the need to have a reason,) that we need reminded of the feelings we have known in reading it in the past.

This made me think about the book Fahrenheit 451 for some strange reason. At the end of the book Bradbury talks about the fact that to a certain degree the Firemen (the men who set light to the books seen as contraband) were uneccessary when it got the pont where people stop reading books. We need that push at times to read and re-read the Book of Mormon. Because without that push all of a sudden your scriptures become these pieces of paper that you carry in a wee satchel to church . Hmmm, I think I started talking garbage. I hope I made some sense in there.

When Laman and Lemuel and Nephi are visited by the angel and they (L&L) get all annoyed about it, the Lord says to them pretty much. "Hey it's a commandment, just get it done". I wonder how many people rolled there eyes at the read the BoM before the end of the year thing. I know I was up there. So good to read in the frst few chapters that HEY JOHN!! Just get it done OK. Worry about why later. It is for your profit and learning!!!

That is all I have to say right now. I hope everyone is further on than me, or even better still that you are reading along with the rest of the site!!!

Bye for now!
