Part II of What a Week
Posted On 04/11/2008 17:29:38
My last blog went into detail about how I was out of a job in a flash. The Dealership I was working at is now under new ownership and scheduled to open this Monday.
I was called last week to come back to work only to find out everything was not settled and the doors could not be open. I was called a few days later to come in again only to find out the same as above. We met with the new ownership this past week and they told us they were excited etc, etc. They also mentioned that not everyone would be called back. We had about 90 people employed and they do not want that many on the payroll. I can understand that and I can see their point of view. For the last few days I have been here at home waiting to see if I was part of their plan. I was assured by one and all that I would be back and not to worry. But....I still did not have a phone call telling me I was coming back and could not really relax till that phone call came. I finally got that call about an hour ago. Now I can really start back to work on Monday morning and we are open for business. WOW!!!!

What a Week
Posted On 03/21/2008 17:42:25
This past saturday I was at home going about my buisness. I came into my house from outside and took a look at my cell phone. I noticed I had missed a call from a guy I work with. This was his saturday to work so I assumed he was calling me about a work related question. I called him back and he told me that the Dealership we work for has lost its floor plan. In other words, everything on the lot was being repoed as we spoke. I left friday evening for home and everything seemed just fine and normal. Now my world has just collapsed. I am now afraid that I have lost my job and will be in a desperate search for another one. Then I wondered how many employment ads are out there for someone my age.
To add to all of this my daughter and grandaughter were visiting from out of town and when I recieved this call my wife and daughter were at a stake Relief Society Social. Later that night my whole family was here and I still did not share this info with them.
I got up on Sunday morning and traveled to the Singles Ward in our stake. I was asked to speak in Sacrament Meeting. I went there and gave my talk and tried to be happy. I have 2 kids that attend the Singles Ward in our Stake and we rode together. I did not tell them about my employment situation. Later that evening I told my wife what happened. I had to tell her cause she was getting ready to leave for a few days. Her Dad was having surgery and she was going to stay a few days with him and his wife. My wife is awesome, as soon as I told her about my phone call and that I have to attend a meeting on monday morning she dropped down on her knees and said...come on lets have a prayer together.
MOnday morning came and the owners I work for are awesome. This family has been in buisness for about 45yrs. This was very hard for them to speak with us. They told us what happened and said they were going to Chicago to meet with some key people that are very very interested in investing in the company. This did happen and we should be back up and running in a few weeks. They will pay us for as long as it takes. We are all happy and excited about this. After losing sleep for a few days this was great news.
My wife and I have been thru our share of trials in our marriage and we keep on going to church. We know this is where we belong. There is nothing more important than attending church on sunday and partaking of the sacrament. This will not be our last trial and we just hope and pray we are more prepared for the next one.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ is real and will comfort us during our times of trials. It will and can change your life. No matter what always pray and read your scriptures.
I just covered alot of things in a short amount of time. I left alot of stuff out, but I just wanted to share a peek into my life for a week.

President Hinckley
Posted On 02/02/2008 20:17:50

While viewing the funeral today of President Hinckley, I started thinking about how he influenced my life. The first thing that came into my mind was...he taught me how to be a Parent. Thats right, he taught me how to be a Parent. I was 31yrs old when I was first called as the Bishop of our Ward. My wife and I have 4 children and they were still very young. I believe they were 2,4,6, and 8yrs old.
There was a Primary broadcast one night and President Hinckley was speaking. He was talking about teaching children as parents etc. He related a story how a young mother always told her child not to go to the corner. One day this Mother let the child play outside and she looked out the window and her child started going right to the corner. This Mother ran after the child and said...I thought I told you not to go to the corner. The child asked...what is the corner. President Hinckley went to explain how important it is to teach our children rather than yell or scold. That made an impression upon me and I will tell all of you this...I was not a perfect Parent...but I can assure you that night...I became a better Parent cause I learned how to teach my children instaed of yelling. I have never forgotten that evening. When I arrived home I apologized to my children for being a lousy Dad and that I was going to be better.
From time to time we talk about that night and when I watch my daughter and her husband teach our grandaughter I realise they are great Parents.
I believe that Presidnet Hinckley has touched all of us in a good positive way and he has made a difference and we are all better people.
