Baptisms for the dead
Posted On 03/13/2008 14:30:59
I am very grateful for the responses to my blog about the churches role behind the practice of baptisms for dead loved ones.
Your points hve been taken to heart and it pleases me to know that my ancestors are not being forced to become members of the church.
However, after hearing your views about giving them the opportunity to accept or decline the gospel when they may not have been given the chance before they passed on, it would not surprise me if they did choose to become members of your church.
I never would have thought of it that way, so I apologise if I've offended anyone who holds this practice dear to their hearts.
Your answers have opened my eyes up to a whole new world, one which looks very appealing I must say.
So thankyou all for allowing your light to shine upon me this day.
sincerely

Work for the dead
Posted On 03/12/2008 19:14:48
I understand the church does a great deal of work for the dead, though I don't understand why?  Can somebody, preferably an elder of the church, shed some light on this subject.  I am not in a position to judge the church for it's practices and I am far from perfect, so it bothers me a great deal to know that the church may be responsible for baptizing my ancestors without my knowldge, and quite possibly causing families to separate in some strange way.  The intention of this practice may be very innocent, but whom does it serve and what rights are given to its non-member family members whose dead loved ones are possibly being baptized into a religion that they do not want to be a part of, hence the separation.  I am grieved by this thought, as well as the fact that the church gives authority to strangers enabling them to act on behalf of my ancestors.  I hope that this plea for understanding will be answered with respect to my religion, as I completely respect yours.
