Unusual Fast & Testimony Meeting
Posted On: 11/02/2008 23:27:17
Today at church, the counselor in the Bishopric that was conducting bore his testimony, then before turning the time over to the congregation, he re-read the standard political letter from the First Presidency and reminded us that "if any of you are planning on making political speeches, this is not the place."  There was a little snickering throughout the chapel, but then he sat down.  Two of the first five people to get up talked about Prop 8, which annoyed me a little bit.  For one thing, I live in Ohio.  For another, I split politically with (I think it's safe to say) the majority of the Church.  However, hearing people talk about this issue in Sacrament meeting where the Spirit was already present was a lot different, I found, than reading about it here, where things tend to get heated in debate.

Mostly, I'm just excited for Tuesday, and then for Wednesday when it's all over.  :)

Did anyone else have "odd" meetings today?

Eh. The lady who gave the opening prayer in Sacrament went on for like 5 minutes about what a blessing it is to vote. I had to open my eyes a couple of times because my eyelid muscles started cramping.

i read the title of this and mixed up the words, and it wasn't until  got home and re-read this that i said "ooooh unusual fast AND testimony meeting"  i was reading it "unusual AND fast testimony meeting"  thinking that it was a really short one this week or something....

anyways, it always bothers me when people use testimony to tell how their week went.  what they've been up to.  and not to bear their testimonies.  no word of a lie, someone at girls camp talked about the toilets during our testimony meeting.

This to me spells out our TARES among the WHEAT. These are
they who are wearing church attire but are wolves inside. It is not coherent to
speak on political matters from the pulpit.
