Mayan Temples "EL MIRADOR" Creation Story 300 B.C. The Book of Mormon...

Recently, archaeologists have discovered the creation engraved in a Mayan temple in El Mirador, Guatamala. This is the same creation from the Popul Vuh, a Mayan work which relates many Biblical stories including the creation, and the great flood in Noahs time. It was thought that these stories were influenced by Catholic Priests, but, as this clip shows, there may be a more ancient setting for these stories.
This is a CNN report, which shows the discovery of the largest pyramid to date, along with a carving of the Mayan creation dated to around 300 B.C. This may place the stories of the Popul Vuh, and it's Christian stories, to pre-Columbian times.

The Americans, as a nation, are killing themselves with their vices and...

The Word of Wisdom is an inspired health code.

â€śChapter 29: Living the Word of Wisdom,” Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Brigham Young, page 211

When we go on a trip to the settlements and stop at the brethren’s houses, it is, “Brother Brigham, let us manifest our feelings towards you and your company.” I tell them to do so, but give me a piece of Johnny-cake [cornbread]; I would rather have it than their pies and tarts and sweet meats. Let me have something that will sustain nature and leave my stomach and whole system clear to receive the Spirit of the Lord and be free from headache and pains of every kind (DBY, 189).

The Americans, as a nation, are killing themselves with their vices and high living. As much as a man ought to eat in half an hour they swallow in three minutes, gulping down their food like the [dog] under the table, which, when a chunk of meat is thrown down to it, swallows it before you can say “twice.” If you want a reform, carry out the advice I have just given you. Dispense with your multitudinous dishes, and, depend upon it, you will do much towards preserving your families from sickness, disease and death (DBY, 189).

Do you know that it is your privilege so to live that your minds may all the time be perfectly within your control? Study to preserve your bodies in life and health, and you will be able to control your minds (DBY, 190).

The thinking part is the immortal or invisible portion, and it is that which performs the mental labor; then the tabernacle, which is formed and organized for that express purpose, brings about or effects the result of that mental labor. Let the body work with the mind, and let them both labor fairly together, and, with but few exceptions, you will have a strong-minded, athletic individual, powerful both physically and mentally (DBY, 191).

Be careful of your bodies; be prudent in laying out your energies, for when you are old you will need the strength and power you are now wasting. Preserve your lives. Until you know and practice this, you are not thoroughly good soldiers nor wise stewards (DBY, 193).

Then let us not trifle with our mission, by indulging in the use of injurious substances. These lay the foundation of disease and death in the systems of men, and the same are committed to their children, and another generation of feeble human beings is introduced into the world. Such children have insufficient bone, sinew, muscle, and constitution, and are of little use to themselves, or to their fellow creatures; they are not prepared for life (DBY, 185–86).

Are we followers of Christ ? Yes we are, thats why we are Christians or...

The term Mormons has no association with Christ, for an outsider, for people who look for the Gospel of Jesus Christ and his church, the terms Saints or Christians is associated with Jesus Christ .The term Mormons was used by our persecuters and is still used in bad terms by our persecuters, but we are followers of Christ and should call ourselves Saints or Christians as the holy scriptures Book of Mormon and Bibel tells us( See the following scriptures). We should not call ourselves Mormons, even as the church shouldn't be called the Mormon church .
Our Persecuters love the term Mormons so if they persecute us, they don't persecute Christians that's how its percieved in the media. If we are persecuted it should be for the name of Jesus Christ, which church it is . If we want the people worldwide to understand that we are the restored Church of Jesus Christ, as we are, we must stop using the old terms Mormons and Mormonism inside and outside the church .
The term Mormonism shouldn't be accepted either, because we believe in the teachings of our savior Jesus Christ which church it is and which name it bears.. Joseph Smith used the term only as reflective speaking when talking to the ones who were opposed to the church or even persecuting the church who were attending church .
So it is not an official term and also makes no sense , we are not Mormons its not the Mormon Church we don't preach Mormonism or Culture we preach and teach of Christ and his gospel etc. and everyone should know by the terms and words we use for ourselves , that we are followers of Christ and that should reflect in every sense of the word.

Acts 11: 26
26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
1 Pet. 4: 16
16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.
Alma 46
15 And those who did belong to the church were faithful; yea, all those who were true believers in Christ took upon them, gladly, the name of Christ, or Christians as they were called, because of their belief in Christ who should come.
Alma 46: 13, 15-16
13 And he fastened on his head-plate, and his abreastplate, and his shields, and girded on his armor about his loins; and he took the pole, which had on the end thereof his rent coat, (and he called it the btitle of liberty) and he cbowed himself to the earth, and he prayed mightily unto his God for the blessings of liberty to rest upon his brethren, so long as there should a band of Christians remain to possess the land— • • •
15 And those who did belong to the church were faithful; yea, all those who were true believers in Christ took upon them, gladly, the name of Christ, or Christians as they were called, because of their belief in Christ who should come. 16 And therefore, at this time, Moroni prayed that the cause of the Christians, and the freedom of the land might be favored.
D&C 59: 5
5 Wherefore, I give unto them a commandment, saying thus: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy bheart, with all thy might, mind, and strength; and in the name of Jesus Christ thou shalt serve him.

3 Nephi 27:2-10
2 And Jesus again showed himself unto them, for they were praying unto the Father in his name; and Jesus came and stood in the midst of them, and said unto them: What will ye that I shall give unto you?
3 And they said unto him: Lord, we will that thou wouldst tell us the name whereby we shall call this church; for there are disputations among the people concerning this matter.
5 Have they not read the scriptures, which say ye must take upon you the name of Christ, which is my name? For by this name shall ye be called at the last day; 6 And whoso taketh upon him my name, and endureth to the end, the same shall be saved at the last day.
7 Therefore, whatsoever ye shall do, ye shall do it in my name; therefore ye shall call the church in my name; and ye shall call upon the Father in my name that he will bless the church for my sake. 8 And how be it my church save it be called in my name? For if a church be called in Moses' name then it be Moses' church; or if it be called in the name of a man then it be the church of a man; but if it be called in my name then it is my church, if it so be that they are built upon my gospel. 9 Verily I say unto you, that ye are built upon my gospel; therefore ye shall call whatsoever things ye do call, in my name; therefore if ye call upon the Father, for the church, if it be in my name the Father will hear you;

I know the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints it is the restored church of Jesus Christ and he is our Savior and the head of the church.
And if we take the name of Jesus Christ upon us, as written in the scriptures and talk of him and preach and rejoice the Lord will bless us. And the people who don't know where to find the truth will find the truth if we use the name of Jesus Christ and the proper name of his church to proclaim the gospel and take his name upon us as true Saints or Christians and follow his example.

Elder Jeffrey R. Holland: Lessons learned from Liberty Jail

      PROVO, UTAH
Through Joseph Smith's experience in what has been referred to by some of the early brethren as the "prison-temple" of Liberty Jail, valuable lessons can be learned, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve told young adults in a Church Educational System fireside Sunday, Sept. 7.
With his address from the BYU Marriott Center available in many parts of the world by satellite broadcast and on the Internet, Elder Holland told listeners those lessons can help them with their own challenges.
After recounting the historical events leading up to and including the incarceration of the Prophet and several of his brethren in Liberty Jail, Elder Holland said, "So in what sense could Liberty Jail be called a 'temple' — or at least a kind of a temple — in the development of Joseph Smith personally and in his role as a prophet? And what does such a title tell us about God's love and teachings, including where and when that love and those teachings are made manifest?

Photo by Andrew Van Wagenen/BYU Daily Universe       "As we think on these things does it strike us that spiritual experience, revelatory experience, sacred experience can come to everyone of us in all the many and varied stages and circumstances of our lives if we want it, if we hold on and pray on, if we keep our faith strong through our difficulties?"
His message, he said, was that "you can have sacred, revelatory, profoundly instructive experience with the Lord in the most miserable experiences of your life — in the worst settings, while enduring the most painful injustices, when facing the most insurmountable odds and opposition you have ever faced."
Then he stated, "Everyone of us, in one way or another, great or small, dramatic or incidental, are going to spend a little time in Liberty Jail — spiritually speaking."
For whatever reason and no matter how unfair they are, difficult experiences will be faced, he said, adding that the lessons coming out of the 1838-39 Liberty Jail events "teach us that man's extremity is God's opportunity, and if we will be humble and faithful, if we will be believing and not curse God for our problems, He can turn the unfair and the inhumane and debilitating prisons of our life into temples — or at least into a circumstance that can bring comfort and revelation, divine companionship and peace."
Blessings that came from Liberty Jail include the revelations received by Joseph Smith that are now Doctrine and Covenants 121-123. As their "classroom assignment," Elder Holland challenged the congregation to read those sections. "I will be checking on your homework," he said with a smile.
He then discussed three lessons from Liberty Jail.
      • The first, he said, "is that everyone, including (and perhaps especially) the righteous, will be called upon to face trying times."
At those times, he continued, individuals may identify with Joseph Smith who cried out in Liberty Jail: "O God, where art thou?" (Doctrine and Covenants 121:1.)
Elder Holland said, "Whenever these moments of our extremity come, we must not succumb to the fear that God has abandoned us. ... We must continue to believe, continue to have faith, continue to pray and plead with heaven even if we feel for a time our prayers are not heard and that God has somehow gone away. He is there. Our prayers are heard, and when we weep, He and the angels of heaven weep with us. ...
"When suffering, we may in fact be nearer to God than we have ever been in our entire lives. That knowledge can turn every such situation into a would-be temple."
      • The second lesson, according to Elder Holland, is that we are not alone in going through trials. The Savior Himself, though perfect, suffered trials that enable Him to deliver others from theirs.
"We need to realize that just because difficult things happen — sometimes unfair and seemingly unjustified things — it does not mean that we are unrighteous or that we are unworthy of blessings or that God is disappointed in us," Elder Holland said. "Of course sinfulness does bring suffering and the only answer to that behavior is repentance. But sometimes suffering comes to the righteous, too."

Photo by Andrew Van Wagenen/BYU Daily Universe       The Savior, Elder Holland pointed out, acknowledged the trials the Prophet was going through while in Liberty Jail, but He said, "The Son of Man hath descended below them all. Art thou greater than he?" (Doctrine and Covenants 122:8.)
Elder Holland answered, "No. Joseph was not greater than the Savior and neither are we. And when we promise to follow the Savior, to walk in His footsteps and be His disciples, we are promising to go where that divine path leads us. And the path of salvation has always led one way or another through Gethsemane."
Through the Atonement, the Savior "experienced all of the heartache and sorrow, all of the disappointments and injustices that the entire family of man has experienced from Adam and Eve to the end of the world in order that we would not have to face them so severely or so deeply," Elder Holland said.
      • The third lesson of Liberty Jail, he said, is that in times of difficult feelings, "the Lord reminds us from the Liberty Jail prison-temple that 'the rights of the priesthood are inseparably connected with the powers of heaven, and that the powers of heaven cannot be controlled nor handled only (or "except") upon the principles of righteousness."' (Doctrine and Covenants 121:36.)
We learn from the Savior and His prophets, Elder Holland said, "that the real test of our faith and our Christian discipleship is when things are not going smoothly. That is when we get to see what we are made of and how strong our commitment to the gospel really is."
Counseling further, Elder Holland referred to Doctrine and Covenants 123:17, written during cold, lonely hours in jail, and then stated, "Joseph says, let us do all we can do and do it cheerfully. Then we can justifiably turn to the Lord, wait upon His mercy, and see His arm revealed in our behalf. What a magnificent attitude to maintain in good times or bad, in sorrow or joy."
After leaving a blessing on the congregation, Elder Holland concluded saying, "I testify that bad days come to an end, that faith always triumphs and that heavenly promises are always kept."
