This is a cute email that I received that I wanted to share. It has a lot of humor. So please do NOT take it as real beliefs because they are not.
A child was asked to write a book report on the entire Bible. This is amazing and brought tears of laughter to my eyes.
I wonder how often we take for granted that children understand what we are teaching???
Through the eyes of a child:
The Children's Bible in a Nutshell
In the beginning, which occurred near the start, there wasnothing but God, darkness, and some gas. The Bible says,'The Lord thy God is one, but I think He must be a lot older than=2 0that.
Anyway, God said, 'Give me a light!' and someone did.
Then God made the world.
He split the Adam and made Eve. Adam and Eve were naked, but they weren't embarrassed because mirrors hadn't beeninvented yet.
Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating one badapple, so they were driven from the Garden of Eden
.....Not sure what they were driven in though, because they didn't have cars.
Adam and Eve had a son, Cain, who hated his brother as longas he was Abel.
Pretty soon all of the early people diedoff, except for Methuselah, who lived to be like a million or something.
One of the next important people was Noah, who was a good guy,but one of his kids was kind of a Ham. Noah built alarge boat and put his family and some animals on it. He askedsome other people to join him, but they said they wouldhave to take a rain check.
After Noah came Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Jacob was morefamous than his brother, Esau, because Esau sold Jacob hisbirthmark in exchange for some pot roast. Jacob had a sonnamed Joseph who wore a really loud sports coat.
Another important Bible guy is Moses, whose real name wasCharlton Heston. Moses led the Israel Lights out of Egyptand away from the evil Pharaoh after God sent ten plagues onPharaoh's people. These plagues included frogs, mice, lice, bowels, and no cable.
God fed the Israel Lights every daywith manicotti. Then he gave them His Top Ten Commandments. These include: don't lie, cheat, smoke, dance, or covet yourneighbor's stuff.
Oh, yeah, I just thought of one more:Humor thy father and thy mother.
One of Moses' best helpers was Joshua who was the firstBible guy to use spies. Joshua fought the battle of Geritol andthe fence fell over on the town.
After Joshua came David. He got to be king by killing agiant with a slingshot. He had a son named Solomon who hadabout 300 wives and 500 porcupines. My teacher says he was wise, but that doesn't sound very wise to me.
After Solomon there were a bunch of major league prophets. One of these was Jonah, who was swallowed by a big whale and thenbarfed up on the shore.
There were also some minor leagueprophets, but I guess we don't have to worry about them.
After the Old Testament came the New Testament. Jesus is thestar of The New. He was=2 0born in Bethlehem in a barn. (I wish I had been born in a barn too, because my mom is always saying to me, 'Close the door! Were you born in a barn?' It wouldbe nice to say, 'As a matter of fact, I was.')
During His life, Jesus had many arguments with sinners likethe Pharisees and the Democrats.
Jesus also had twelve opossums.
The worst one was Judas Asparagus. Judas was so evil that theynamed a terrible vegetable after him.
Jesus was a great man. He healed many leopards and evenpreached to some Germans on the Mount.
But the Democrats and all those guys put Jesus on trial before Pontius the Pilot. Pilot didn't stick up for Jesus. He just washed his hands instead.
Anyways, Jesus died for our sins, then came back to life again. He went up to Heaven but will be back at the end of theAluminum. His return is foretold in the book of Revolution.
This is an article I received in my email from an email list I am a part of. It's about Focus on the Family group pulling an article off their website about Glenn Beck and how they didn't know that he was Mormon and that Mormons are not Christians.
It really irritates me that we as members of the Mormon church get slammed or gets ridiculed in saying that we are not christians. Well, here's my stand to the whole wide world:
I testify to you in the name of Jesus Christ that Mormons are Christians!!!!! The word or name Mormon is just a nickname we are given because of the Book of Mormon. The church's real name is:
THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS
The church has the name of the savior, Jesus Christ, who is the very literal son of God. He is the redeemer of all man-kind. He is at the head of this church. He leads His church through prophets and apostles as He did in biblical times.
We teach out of the King James Version of the Holy Bible. We also believe that He has more to offer us through other texts such as the Book of Mormon. We read in John 21:25 that there are so many things that Jesus has done that the world could not contain all the writings. Because He is the Lord Omnipotent, He is in control and He knows what He wants done.
I testify of these things in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
First, please listen to the song in the following video before you read my blog any further.
I believe this song has a lot of importance to me. We all struggle with weaknesses. I am currently struggling with one right now. It's nice to have a bit of a reminder of what could be on the other side. My wife first shared this song with me awhile back as she loves some of the Barbie movies and even has the soundtrack to the first few movies that were produced. My wife knew that I was struggling back then and shared this song with me. It has become a good one. I was trying to see if I could add it to the regular playlist.com list but it's not available there yet.
Now, the reason why I had you listen to it first, was because we need to remember what we're working towards. We need to remember why we're here and how we're going to return to live with our Heavenly Father. After all, the ultimate goal should be to become as He is.
I can't say that I am perfect, because I am NOT by no means. However, I know that as I repent for my mistakes and as I look to the Lord Jesus Christ for my strength and guidance to help me to overcome my weaknesses and shortcomings, He will pick up the slack for me. I am so grateful for this knowledge and I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ. AMEN.
Three years ago, a little boy and his grandmother came to see Santa at Mayfair Mall in Wisconsin . The child climbed up on his lap, holding a picture of a little girl.
"Who is this?" asked Santa, smiling.
"Your friend?" Your sister? "Yes, Santa," he replied. "My sister, Sarah, who is very sick," he said sadly. Santa glanced over at the grandmother who was waiting nearby, and saw her dabbing her eyes with a tissue.
"She wanted to come with me to see you, oh, so very much, Santa!" the child exclaimed. "She misses you," he added softly.
Santa tried to be cheerful and encouraged a smile to the boy's face, asking him what he wanted Santa to bring him for Christmas. When they finished their visit, the Grandmother came over to help the child off his lap, and started to say something to Santa, but halted.
"What is it?" Santa asked warmly.
"Well, I know it's really too much to ask you,Santa, but ..." the old woman began, shooing her grandson over to one of Santa's elves to collect the little gift which Santa gave all his young visitors.
"The girl in the photograph .. my granddaughter .. well, you see .. she has leukemia and isn't expected to make it even through the holidays," she said through tear-filled eyes. "Is there any way, Santa ... any possible way that you could come see Sarah? That's all she's asked for, for Christmas, is to see Santa."
Santa blinked and swallowed hard and told the woman to leave information with his elves as to where Sarah was, and he would see what he could do. Santa thought of little else the rest of that afternoon. He knew what he had to do.
"What if it were MY child lying in that hospital bed, dying," he thought with a sinking heart, "this is the least I can do."
When Santa finished visiting with all the boys and girls that evening, he retrieved from his helper the name of the hospital where Sarah was staying. He asked the assistant location manager how to get to Children's Hospital.
"Why?" Rick asked, with a puzzled look on his face. Santa relayed to him the conversation with Sarah's grandmother earlier that day. "C'mon .... I'll take you there," Rick said softly. Rick drove them to the hospital and came inside with Santa. They found out which room Sarah was in.
A pale Rick said he would wait out in the hall. Santa quietly peeked into the room through the half-closed door and saw little Sarah on the bed. The room was full of what appeared to be her family; there was the Grandmother and the girl's brother he had met earlier that day.
A woman whom he guessed was Sarah's mother stood by the bed, gently pushing Sarah's thin hair off her forehead. And another woman who he discovered later was Sarah's aunt, sat in a chair near the bed with weary, sad look on her face.
They were talking quietly, and Santa could sense the warmth and closeness of the family, and their love and concern for Sarah. Taking a deep breath, and forcing a smile on his face, Santa entered the room, bellowing a hearty,"Ho, ho, ho!"
"Santa!" shrieked little Sarah weakly, as she tried to escape her bed to run to him, IV tubes in tact. Santa rushed to her side and gave her a warm hug.
A child the tender age of his own son -- 9 years old -- gazed up at him with wonder and excitement. Her skin was pale and her short tresses bore telltale bald patches from the effects of chemotherapy. But all he saw when he looked at her was a pair of huge, blue eyes. His heart melted, and he had to force himself to choke back tears. Though his eyes were riveted upon Sarah's face, he could hear the gasps and quiet sobbing of the women in the room. As he and Sarah began talking, the family crept quietly to the bedside one by one, squeezing Santa's shoulder or his hand gratefully, whispering "thank you" as they gazed sincerely at him with shining eyes. Santa and Sarah talked and talked, and she told him excitedly all the toys she wanted for Christmas, assuring him she'd been a very good girl that year.
As their time together dwindled, Santa felt led in his spirit to pray for Sarah, and asked for permission from the girl's mother. She nodded in agreement and the entire family circled around Sarah's bed, holding hands. Santa looked intensely at Sarah and asked her if she believed in angels.
"Oh, yes, Santa ... I do!" she exclaimed. "Well, I'm going to ask that angels watch over you," he said. Laying one hand on the child's head, Santa closed his eyes and prayed.
He asked that God touch little Sarah, and heal her body from this disease. He asked that angels minister to her, watch and keep her. And when he finished praying, still with eyes closed, he started singing softly,"Silent Night, Holy Night, all is calm, all is bright." The family joined in, still holding hands, smiling at Sarah, and crying tears of hope, tears of joy for this moment, as Sarah beamed at them all. When the song ended, Santa sat on the side of the bed again and held Sarah's frail, small hands in his own.
"Now, Sarah," he said authoritatively, "you have a job to do, and that is to concentrate on getting well. I want you to have fun playing with your friends this summer, and I expect to see you at my house at Mayfair Mall this time next year!"
He knew it was risky proclaiming that, to this little girl who had terminal cancer, but he "had" to. He had to give her the greatest gift he could -- not dolls or games or toys -- but the gift of HOPE.
"Yes, Santa!" Sarah exclaimed, her eyes bright. He leaned down and kissed her on the forehead and left the room.
Out in the hall, the minute Santa's eyes met Rick's, a look passed between them and they wept unashamed. Sarah's mother and grandmother slipped out of the room quickly and rushed to Santa's side to thank him.
"My only child is the same age as Sarah," he explained quietly. "This is the least I could do." They nodded with understanding and hugged him.
One year later, Santa Mark was again back on the set in Milwaukee for his six-week, seasonal job which he so loves to do. Several weeks went by and then one day a child came up to sit on his lap.
"Hi, Santa! Remember me?!"
"Of course, I do," Santa proclaimed (as he always does), smiling down at her. After all, the secret to being a "good" Santa is to always make each child feel as if they are the "only" child in the world at that moment. "You came to see me in the hospital last year!" Santa's jaw dropped.
Tears immediately sprang in his eyes, and he grabbed this little miracle and held her to his chest. "Sarah!" he exclaimed. He scarcely recognized her, for her hair was long and silky and her cheeks were rosy -- much different from the little girl he had visited just a year before. He looked over and saw Sarah's mother and grandmother in the sidelines smiling and waving and wiping their eyes.
That was the best Christmas ever for Santa Claus. He had witnessed -- and been blessed to be instrumental in bringing about -- this miracle of hope. This precious little child was healed. Cancer-free. Alive and well.
He silently looked up to Heaven and humbly whispered, "Thank you, Father. ' Tis a very, Merry Christmas!"
This is a talk that I gave earlier this year; at the end of Jan. 2009. My wife and I were moving away from a wonderful ward and I wanted to give my testimony for the last time. When I approached the Bishopric, they asked me to give a talk and the title of the talk is listed above. Please note that there are a couple of changes to the talk. 1st, I used my wife's computer screen name. 2nd, this talk was given when President Hinckley was still alive but my testimony still remains as it is below:
I have to admit, that I never really took the time to really apply the article to my life until recently when I was asked to give this talk. When I read it all the way through, it got me to pondering about some aspects of my life and it also got me to remembering some of the counsels that my patriarchal blessing gives me.
Well, the question is, “How does it guide me?”
There are many ways that this proclamation can guide me. However, I want to share with you the two most important ones and the information on how it guides me, is how it can also guide you.
First, it reminds me that I must be a worthy individual, not only a worthy individual, but also a worthy priesthood holder within my marriage.Being a worthy priesthood holder means that I must never deliberately harm my wife in anyway. Also, it means that I should serve her, make her feel special and treat her like a daughter of God. Not only that, but it also helps me to remember that I need to prepare myself well, for when the day comes that Olivia and I do have children, to treat them in the same respect as my wife..
Second, it helps me to remember my purpose here on this earth. As we remember our Heavenly Father’s Plan, we were all spirit children of our Heavenly Father. He wanted us so much to become more like Him.He wanted us to come here to gain bodies like His, immortal and incorruptible. We were also sent here to be tested and tried. No better way to be tested and tried, is through a family.
A family which consists of a man and woman joined in holy matrimony sealed as husband and wife, for time and eternity and bearing children within that marriage. While bearing children, comes the grave responsibility of making sure that they return to live with their Heavenly Father.
President Lorenzo Snow stated, “Let families put themselves in possession of all the good they can-be in a position to do right continually in the path to exaltation and glory.”
To the parents in this ward, I would like to remind you, you were given a special calling to the children that you have stewardship over within the walls of your home.Remember, that these are Heavenly Father’s children. These same children are your spiritual brothers and sisters who you have a duty to teach right from wrong.Heavenly Father is counting on you to teach them the gospel, and yet once they have learned the gospel, their choices can be made accordingly. If you have taught them the gospel, you have nothing to fear, and the sins are no longer on your heads.
President Joseph F. Smith remarked:
“Let love, peace, and the Spirit of the Lord, kindness, charity, sacrifice for others, abound in your families. Banish harsh words . . . and let the Spirit take possession of your hearts.Teach your children these things, in spirit and power . . . Not one child in a hundred would go astray, if the home environment, example and training, were in harmony with . . . the gospel of Christ.”
To the youth in this ward, I would like to let you know, that your parents love you and have been where you have been. They have been your age before. You may not think so but it’s true. Listen to and obey your parents. They do not want you to have to learn the hard way.Once you take the wrong step, sometimes it is really hard to retrace your steps.Repentance is a sore process, but if you are making the right choices, then you do not have to suffer the consequences, only the blessings from living the gospel as taught within the home.
In Ephesians 6:1-4, the Apostle Paul writes:
1 CHILDREN, Obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
2 Honour thy father and mother,
3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
4 And ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in nurture and admonition of the Lord.
I believe that the family is so important to our eternal perspective. In a world when society says its ok for same gender relationships or for relationships outside of marriage, we as members need to shine out in proving society wrong. We need to be able to prove to them as modern day prophets have, that a marriage consists only between a man and a woman, and it is only through that union that children may be raised up in righteousness.
We are in a war right now, a war for souls. This war for souls has been ongoing since the beginning of time. That is why we as members need to continue to make sure that the family unit stays the way our Heavenly Father intended it to be.
President Spencer W. Kimball stated:
“It is important for us to cultivate in our own family a sense that we belong together eternally, that whatever changes outside our home, there are fundamental aspects of our relationship which will never change.”
Having an earthly family prepares us to become more like our heavenly parents, where we will have the opportunity to begin a heavenly family of our own some day. Otherwise, our Heavenly Father’s plan is null and void. There are many forces who wants to stop His plan from happening, but I know that as we follow the admonitions of the prophets and other ecclesiastical leaders, His plan will succeed.
I am so grateful for Heavenly Father's plan. I am so grateful that He was willing to sacrifice His son for me so that I might return to live with him. I am so grateful that He called upon a young man of 14 years old, to join no church and later called upon him to be a prophet to restore the gospel in these latter days. I am grateful that we have a living prophet and that he is Thomas S. Monson. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
When four of Santa's elves got sick, the trainee elves did not produce toys as fast as the regular ones, and Santa began to feel the Pre-Christmas pressure.
Then Mrs Claus told Santa her Mother was coming to visit, which stressed Santa even more.
When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two others had jumped the fence and were out, Heaven knows where.
Then when he began to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards cracked, the toy bag fell to the ground and all the toys were scattered.
Frustrated, Santa went in the house for a cup of apple cider and a shot of rum. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered the elves had drank all the cider and hidden the liquor.
In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the cider jug, and it broke into hundreds of little glass pieces all over the kitchen floor.
He went to get the broom and found the mice had eaten all the straw off the end of the broom.
Just then the doorbell rang, and irritated Santa marched to the door, yanked it open, and there stood a little angel with a great big Christmas tree.
The angel said very cheerfully, 'Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn't this a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would you like me to stick it?'
And so began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas tree.
A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary. Every word out of the bird's mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity. John tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to "clean up" the bird's vocabulary.
Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back. John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even ruder. John, in desperation, threw up his hand, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer. For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed. Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute.
Fearing that he'd hurt the parrot, John quickly open the door to the freezer, the parrot calmly stepped out onto John's outstretched arms and said, "I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I'm sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior."
John was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude. As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird continued, "May I ask what the turkey did?"
