Mormon LDS Leader, M Russell Ballard spoke about the limited practice of polygamy some 117 years ago in the Mormon Church. He then speaks about Mormon families and how important the family unit is to Mormons. This video was compiled using video from Elder M. Russell Ballard's "Faith, Family, Facts, and Fruits" talk given at the 177th semiannual Mormon General Conference. This question comes up alot around me and sometimes I just don't know how to answer them. They say well if Mr.Smith took young girls in secertly sometimes how could God allow that when it's wrong. All I can say is something like this: There were alot of this going on even in the Bible days and maybe it was ok then cause it was needed to survive in those days. But as God words gets stronger and things do change over the course of years with people and times then we have to listen to the talk with God about it and pray that the Holy Spirit will guide is in the right direction. I don't know all, but we are just like you all who beleive in God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit we are not perfect and the church has come along way since back then. everything changes all the time it changed back then and it changes today. It's a hard subject to talk about cause there are smarter people out there who know things I don't and I am sure I sound like a idiot sometimes, but all I can do is try and comfort them and let them know we don't do that now days. One other factor is that we have to obey the law of our land too, and it says no Polygamy just as the law of the land says wear seat belts we have to obey our Govt. then some come back and say... well if the govt. came and made a new law that stated everyone had to give up their first born would the church do that? See, it goes on and on like a spinning wheel one guestion after another so sometimes I just don't know what to say. Then I wonder if I am denying the Holy Spirit because I do try to avoid these subjects untilIi can get stronger in them. I just need to study more on this I can tell. Would anyone on here like to address this matter so I can be more at ease when questioned? Thanks and God Bless.
I heard once that the practice stemmed out of protection for women... the population of women to men is usually not equal, and in that time period (from what I heard) women who were unmarried had no one to protect/clothe/feed/provide a home for them. It was explained to me as a social welfare policy. I am glad that the government has taken over welfare for women (and everyone else) and not left it up to individuals in today's society!
