VIDEO DETAILS
A Gathering Storm And A Late Night Date
By Reid Baer

Holding hands
my wife and I
are running in the raining night
crouching low
sneaking through
the neighborhood
avoiding houses with lights on
whispering
watching
snickering
borrowing a little rubber raft
from someone’s back yard
climbing in it near a stream
slipping like mad people past
a muddy garden row of new carrots
peas and baby potatoes
sliding by sprinkler heads
and plastic toys left by kids –
ours are now all grown –
so we’re following fluid currents
down and around
connecting up to larger rivers
and a bright-lit town maneuvering
atop black wet pavement
in between on coming traffic
cars and vans
and small SUV’s
gliding like successful survivors
rushing with the mighty flow –
oh, what an adventurous sight –
yet calm we are in the rough waters
because we’re together
caring for each other
in a meaningful and fulfilling life
with every ounce of our middle-aged might
- this man and this woman -
in a marriage that is still perfectly right!
