The doctrine is true and yet I
wonder if the underbelly
of dogma has kept this blessed
tribe and its psychological
problems at bay well heeled along
a well worn path where the mind need
not think nor the psyche explore
the mad dog scent of the wild nor
a hero’s journey within our
own God-given spiritual
instincts in the magic of myth
so connected we are sometimes
too much maybe to a space less
cosmic and expansive and more
cultural and small already
knowing everything having been
adequately prepared so that
no one need query the extant
archetypal images or
symbols for the truth neatly trained
sitting – rocking - by hearth at home
complacently waiting for God
to work a miracle in us
or not – just as well – for too much
questing threatens our religion
we may say out of fear for a
soul that must stand alone before
the judgment bar accounting for
what he simply thought he knew and
what he truly knew through and through
