What would Jesus do? I don’t care …
By Reid Baer

What would Jesus do? I don’t care
to merely imitate the Great
One which would land me in despair
and add insult to the Savior.

Rather, let me initiate
myself into His Saving Grace –
the original power of
salvation is that which I seek -

to be uniquely myself in
Christ and refuse the easily
formed portions conveniently dolled
out by those who would appear near

to His throne but quietly steal
my soul for their vanity sake.
I say to them: give me the first
generative way of Christ who gives

back sevenfold to His children,
Gods in embryo, and stewards
of their own standing on their own
before a feast of delights in

body mind and strength of will. I
honor the God of creation
by creating myself – as he
is – not only in his likeness

but in his being – in spirit
following the whispers within.
If not, what a fraud I must be
to perpetuate a shadow

and deny His most personal
holy sacrifice for naught in
word symbols long dead starving me
of the sacred bread and divine

meaning for any living thing.
I pray I am never finished
creating my God as He may
be never finished creating

me. Praise the greater existence
of Him who puts us all in a
perfect place to grow and ever
kindly as a sprouting seed - a

moment in Thine awe-inspiring
presence to lead me to the real
question: What would I do in my
own spiritual development?
